Letter to the Stakeholders

Miko S.r.l. is fully aware of the importance that respect for social and environmental balances has for its stakeholders. The publication, year after year, of a document that describes the performance of the corporate management and the impacts generated and managed from an environmental, social and economic point of view, is a transparency exercise. For this reason, the publication of the 2020 Sustainability Report takes place in the awareness that this instrument can give stakeholders an evaluation of the performance and of the ways in which the Company contributes to the creation of shared value.

The Company believes in its core values, described in the Code of Ethics, and promotes a governance committed to sustainability, based on certified management systems and on the organization model pursuant to Legislative Decree 231/2001.

Its commitment and its strategic choices towards circular economy have led Miko S.r.l., for many years, to create its products monitoring the environmental impacts through a Life Cycle Thinking approach, thanks to which it has obtained the EPD (Environmental Product Declarations) certifications for Dinamica® Auto Line, Dinamica® Nabuk Line as well as the EPD Process certification. The commitment to environment is reflected in the manufacturing process used by Dinamica®, based on the use of a part of recycled raw materials. This process aims to reduce the consumption of natural resources, since it is powered also by electricity produced by renewable sources and managed with attention to the impacts of water and waste treatment.

Monitoring CO2 emissions is a primary objective for the Company, that intends to balance CO2 emissions and become Climate Positive by 2030. This goal, pursed by monitoring the impacts of its own production process, has led the Company to engage with local initiatives aimed to balance the emissions produced. Since 2019, Miko S.r.l. has been carrying on a project that has led to the rebirth of Bosco Sacile in Carlino (UD) through important actions aimed to restore the lowland forest to its original state; this enabled the reactivation of its recreational and educational functions. Thanks to these actions the FSC® certification (Forest Stewardship Council) has been obtained for Bosco Sacile.

The policy for environmental sustainability, the research activities for innovative products, advanced in terms of design and of functional and performance features, mark the ways in which the Company seeks the quality standards required by customers. To keep these quality levels the Company must be committed to investing in plants, equipment, infrastructures, and, in general, in technological innovation.

Miko S.r.l.’s achievements to date, highlighted in the present document in the sections about the performance reached regarding people management, relations with customers and suppliers, the management of energy, CO2 emissions, waste and water resources, as well as the ability to produce value added, would not have been reached without the commitment and skills of the collaborators. During the pandemic emergency, the personnel brought on their commitments, doing their job with a positive and concrete attitude, that has been decisive to minimize the consequences of the crisis. The Company has enacted the necessary safety protocols to avoid any risk of infection, guaranteeing, where possible, remote work. These special actions are part of the policies for health and safety at work, that have always been considered with the greatest attention. The Company has always been committed to ensuring the improvement of working conditions through investments in training and focusing on skills development, seeking a proper work/life balance.

During 2020, initiatives in Friuli Venezia Giulia were developed in the sports system, with Universities and other institutions. To the Company, these initiatives are opportunities to increase the awareness about environmental sustainability as well as moments of comparison that could lead to new shared value projects to be developed locally.

The 2020 Sustainability Report has been written for the first time in compliance with the GRI Sustainability Reporting Standard guidelines issued by the “Global Reporting Initiative”. The reporting process has been verified through a third-party auditattheendofwhichMikoS.r.l.hasobtained an assurance certifying the accordance with GRI Standards Core option.

This path marks a step ahead for the Company and in the coming years, also in the light of rapid developments in non-financial reporting, it is going to improve the communication with the stakeholders.

By using the GRI International Standards, the Company has implemented a stakeholder engagement system making possible the development of a materiality matrix by measuring the importance of the issues to report.
This process is clearly explained in the present document, in the chapter “stakeholders and materiality assessment”. Stakeholder engagement, that is increasing, and the attention to their demands / concerns, is the key element to address the company strategy towards the creation of new value in the respect of the environment and society in general, without compromising the well- being of the future generations.
