Celebrating Akira Yoshino’s Nobel Prize

Asahi Kasei Honorary Fellow develops the lithium-ion batteries

Hideki Kobori, President of Asahi Kasei, the group Miko S.r.l. belongs to, has expressed his enthusiasm for the Nobel Prize in Chemistry won by Dr. Akira Yoshino, Asahi Kasei Honorary Fellow, for the development of the lithium-ion battery, which will lead to a better sustainable mobility.

"I was thrilled to learn that Asahi Kasei Honorary Fellow Dr. Akira Yoshino was named as a laureate of the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry. The selection surely attests to his deep knowledge of a broad range of subjects garnered over long years of incessant effort. This is something for everyone throughout Asahi Kasei to be truly proud of, and moreover a source of encouragement to the industrial sector around the world.

The lithium-ion batteries developed by Yoshino-san and his fellow laureates made a huge contribution to our society of IT, becoming an indispensable part of our daily lives. Now they are playing a growing role in the field of environment and energy for the future sustainability for society.

I hope that Yoshino-san’s extraordinary achievement will inspire younger researchers to take up the baton and develop new things that are really useful for the world. The rest of us should take note of the way all three laureates leveraged connections with others in different fields. Following their example, you too can create new value in your work that contributes to the growth of corporate value for Asahi Kasei."
